    Answers:

1.  What is Rediff Briefcase?
Rediff Briefcase is a premium feature available only to Rediffmail Plus subscribers. It is a secure and safe storage system that allows you to easily store files online, and access them from anywhere. These files could be important documents, images, music files, program files or other types of files. You can store up to 30 MB in Rediff Briefcase.

You can also share the files in your briefcase with friends, colleagues, and others.

2.  How do I access my Rediff Briefcase?
On the left of your Rediffmail Plus page, you will find a link called .Briefcase..

Or you can access it directly by typing in the address of your Briefcase in your browser, and entering your Rediffmail Plus username and password.

If your username is rohan23, the address of your Rediff Briefcase will be http://brief.rediff.com/bn/br/rohan23

3.  How do I create a folder?
Click on the .Create folder. link and you will be taken to .My Folders.. Enter a name for the folder you wish to start and click .Create.. This will open a list of all your folders, including the new one. Choose the new folder and begin adding files.

4.  What is the maximum length of a file or folder name?
A file name can have up to 30 characters and a folder name can have a maximum of 20.

5.  How do I add a file to my briefcase?
On the Rediff Briefcase home page, click .Add files. and you will be asked in which folder you would like to add the files in. To add the file to a particular folder, click the radio button next to it and click .Add files..

Note: If you do not choose a folder, files will be automatically added to .My Folders..

6.  What type of files can I add to my briefcase?
You can add almost any type of file including GIF, BMP, JPEG, MS Office file types, MP3, Real Media, WA, AIFF and HTML. At a time, you can upload a maximum of 10 MB.

7.  How do I move my files from one folder to another?
Once you are in your chosen folder, click on the check box on the left of the file you want to move. Then click .Move. to see a list of all your folders. Click the button alongside the particular folder you wish to move it to.

8.  Is there a validity period for the use of Rediff Briefcase?
You can use the Rediff Briefcase only as long as you are a Rediffmail Plus subscriber. You get an additional 30 days after your Rediffmail Plus subscription expires as time to back up files that were in your Briefcase, in case you have not done so yet.

At the end of this period, all files in your Briefcase will be deleted.

9.  How do I delete a file?
Open the folder in which the file has been saved and click the check box on the left of the file you wish to delete. Then click .delete.. You will be asked to confirm your deletion, to safeguard against accidental deletion of your files.

10.  How do I rename my folders?
Click on the folder you wish to rename. Upon entering the folder, click the .Edit settings. link on the top right of the page. This will lead you to the Settings page with the .Edit Folder Name. link. Enter the new name in the box and click .Save. at the bottom of the page.

11.  How many files can I have in a folder?
There is no limit to the number of files in a folder, though the total file size of your Briefcase should not exceed 30 MB.

12.  I can.t upload my files. Why?
There could be two reasons why you are facing problems uploading files to your Briefcase.
1) The file may be larger than the 10 MB limit.
2) Your internet connection may be too slow

13.  I have forgotten where I saved a particular file, what can I do?
Rediff Briefcase has a convenient .Search. facility to help you locate your files. Click the .Search. link on the left. On the Search page, you can search for the file by its full name, or even by its initials.

14.  How do I save an attachment that has come in my Rediffmail Plus email directly to my Rediff Briefcase?
While you read an email that has an attachment, you are given an option to scan and download the attachment to your desktop or you can click on .Scan and save to briefcase.. Upon clicking this, a pop up will inform you of the virus-scan results of this attachment. Click the .Save to briefcase. link on top to save it in your Rediff Briefcase.

You may now delete this mail to free up space in your mail account and access this attachment anytime directly from your Briefcase.

15.  How do I view the attachments that I saved directly from my Rediff Briefcase?
When you choose to save a file attachment directly to your briefcase, Rediff Briefcase automatically creates a folder named .Mail Attachments.. All files from your inbox will be saved in this folder. Once it is saved in this folder, you may shift the files to any other folder of your choice.

   Sharing files

1.  How can I share my files with others?
There are three ways you can share to your files.
  • Private (just you)
  • Friends (family and colleagues)
  • Public (everyone)
By default, your Briefcase is set to .Private.. This means only you have access to the files.

2.  How can I share my folder with everyone ('Public')?
If you select .Public. for your folder, anybody can access it.

3.  How do I share files only with people I know (.Friends.)?
Enter the folder you wish to share and click .Edit Settings.. Click the .Friends. link and when you enter the Rediffmail or Rediffmail Plus IDs of all the friends/family/colleagues you wish to share the files with, we will send each of them a mail inviting them to view your files.

This option can be used provided you have the Rediffmail/Rediffmail Plus IDs of the people you wish to share files with.

4.  How do I send my files/folders to a friend?
Instead of sharing the files/folders with .Friends. by entering their Rediffmail IDs and getting Rediffmail to send them the mail sharing the files/ folders, you can also mail the links to your files/folders to them.

Rediff Briefcase allows you to send single and multiple files. Select the files you wish to send by clicking the check boxes next to the file names. Then click the .Email . button. You will now be offered a choice to email to one or more people along with a personal message. After you do so, click .Send email.. This will send the links to your files to the email address(s) you selected. The email IDs of the .Friends. could be Rediffmail or even any other.

You also have the option of choosing the period in which your files are viewable. That means your friend will be only be able to view the files during the period you specify. The periods currently allowed on Rediff Briefcase are 2 weeks, a month and .No expiry period..

5.  What kind of folders can I share?
Currently, you can only share top-level folders (folders directly under .My Folders.) with others.

6.  How do I share a file, not the entire folder?
You cannot share a file without the whole folder being visible. Instead, create a folder with just the file you want to share and share the folder.

7.  How do I add to (or delete from) the list of people permitted to view my files?
Select the folder you want to alter the settings for. Click the .Edit Settings. link on the top right corner to open the Settings page. Add (or delete) the email addresses you wish. Please note that he changes made affect only that particular folder.
